The multi-layered approach of agroecology is based on natural cycles, conserves resources and reduces dependence on external factors such as chemical fertilisers. In addition, the cultivation method strengthens the soil – and thus protects against storms, heavy rain or droughts.
In contrast to organic farming, agroecology goes further. It is a comprehensive, multi-layered form of agriculture that incorporates social, scientific, economic and political aspects. Agroecology can fundamentally change our consumption, agricultural and food system.
Together with local experts and a strong partner network, we have always been committed to an agroecological transition in project countries in the Global South. We impart agroecological knowledge and demonstrate methods that smallholder farmers can apply and develop further. This fundamentally improves people’s lives: by producing their food in a resource-efficient way and marketing it profitably, they can overcome hunger. More and more farming families are convinced by the sustainable approach and also political decision-makers are recognizing agroecology.
We are also campaigning for agroecology at a political level in Switzerland. And in the “Agroecology Works!” network, we are demonstrating the potential of agroecology to the public.
We are convinced that by promoting agroecology, we are contributing to achieve the UN’s sustainability goals.

SWISSAID campaigns for various issues both in projects in the Global South and in Switzerland. In Switzerland, we work on reports, lobby and build networks. In the South, we work directly with local communities and implement our development projects. Each issue is accompanied by an expert.
